Senior Microbiologist

Location: Salt Lake City
Job Hours:      Full-Time

This position reports to the Technical Services Director.


Responsible for performing routine microbiological testing of manufacturing components and pharmaceutical products to support the Pharmaceutical and Food/Dairy Divisions of Thatcher Company.


 


Desired Qualifications/Skills



  • MS or greater degree in a biological science such as microbiology with one to five years of relevant experience in a cGMP/cGLP environment.

  • Experience-based knowledge of microbiology, pharmaceutical manufacturing processes, and FDA guidelines.

  • Demonstrated communication, organization and analytical skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency with MS Office is required.

  • Experience with technical writing.



  • Method validation experience in microbiology or related field.

  • Preference will be given to candidates that also have experience with wet chemistry and/or an analytical chemistry background and/or chemistry experience.


Major Accountabilities



  • Responsibilities will include routine microbiological testing (50%) with the remainder devoted to method development, SOP writing, and evaluation of new testing methodologies and technologies.

  • Must be able to perform regular microbiological assessments including manufacturing processes, environmental testing, and process water testing according to cGMP/cGLP practices.

  • Investigate out-of-specification results.

  • Prepare written summaries of batch testing results.

  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment.



  • Maintain and review all lab associated reports and paperwork.

  • Write and execute laboratory projects and validations.

  • Take an active role in defining new technologies, policies, and procedures to improve product quality and streamline testing.

  • Provide support for R&D projects and inquiries.


Physical Requirements



  • Ability to stand and/or sit for extended periods of time.

  • Duties require use of computer keyboard and mouse.

  • No heavy lifting required.
