Production Planner

Location: Sparks, NV
Job Hours:      Full-time

The Production Planner coordinates and expedites the flow of work and materials within or between departments according to daily and weekly production schedules. Duties include reviewing and distributing production, work, and shipment schedules; discussing with Production, Customer Service, and Transportation to determine progress of work and completion dates and inventory levels


Required and/or Desired Qualifications



  • Understanding of and experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office products; strong computer skills.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Detail-oriented, ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks with strict deadlines.

  • Good customer service/phone skills and flexibility for handling a wide range of activities.

  • Ability to use logic and reasoning to identify solutions to problems.

  • Demonstrated personal time management skills.

  • Ability to develop and achieve company goals and controls. Make suggestions for improvement in areas of cost reduction, processes, quality and productivity.

  • AS/BS/BA degree in business, science desired, but not required.

  • Five (5) years of materials, distribution, supply chain, or finance experience.

  • APICS Certification desired, but not required.


Major Accountabilities



  • Ensure daily production requirements are achieved to meet customer expectation.

  • Analyze and prepare documents needed for production, which includes the creation of BPRs (Batch Production Reports) and Re-pack sheets for the plant to manufacture and package existing products.

  • Analyze production data daily and use such data to make recommendation to support raw material supply and finished goods demand. This includes submitting request for the ordering of the necessary raw materials, packaging, and other items that are needed for the plant and Sales.

  • Creates production schedule and prioritizes job-orders for production optimization. Production planned based on products that are at or below minimum stock levels, plus review and update minimum stock levels when necessary.

  • Maintain the production schedule and other reports as required. Conduct weekly inventory count on high-usage items (such as raw material, packaged goods, etc.) and to ensure the plant does not run out.

  • Monitors the ERP to ensure required data are available and accurate. If inaccurate contact appropriate parties to have data added or corrected.

  • Work with production supervisor to expedite flow of materials to meet production schedule and customer expectation. Review order forecast with Transportation to ensure no delays. Confirm stock availability with Sales, Customer Service and Transportation and if products are not ready (or available), supply an ETA (when possible).

  • Complete weekly status reports for production progress, work in process, and raw material inventory. Production Planner to conduct quarterly and year-end inventory count.

  • Work with production supervisor to manage and resolved daily issues regarding manufacturing efficiencies or relay needed information from Sales, Transportation, and Customer Service.

  • Respond to inquiries from Sales, Production, Transportation, Warehouse, Lab on inventory levels/ETA on certain products.

  • Work to continuously improve the processes surrounding production communication, inventory control, and order fulfillment.


Physical Requirements



  • Duties require use of computer keyboard and mouse, and telephone with or without wireless headset;



  • Must be able to sit and/or stand in one place for extended periods of time but may also require some limited movement around office locations and plant locations.



  • No heavy lifting required.
